Love your neighbor as yourself.
-Jesus of Nazareth

As members of Christ's body we are called to love God with all our heart, soul, mind, and strength-and to love our neighbors as ourselves.

At First Lutheran, we strive for justice in our city, our nation, and our world-encouraging open and faithful dialogue, loving our neighbors, and taking action beyond words.

What we're talking about

First Lutheran identifies itself as “The heart of Christ in the heart of the city.” As members of Christ’s body we are called, in no uncerntain terms, to "Love the Lord your God with all your soul and with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind" and to "love your neighbor as yourself.” Mt. 22:36-40

We do this, however faultingly, in many specific ways. The way we love in public, beyond our efforts through the Third Avenue Charitable Organization (TACO), is to strive for justice in this city and county of San Diego, the state of California, the United States of America and indeed the whole world.

By encouraging open, civil and thoughtful discourse, by loving our neighbors and by encouraging each other to take action beyond words and thought we hope to be a place where justice is known.
