This past weekend, First Lutheran Church proudly joined seven other local Lutheran congregations in marching together as San Diego Lutherans for Love in the 2025 San Diego Pride Parade. United under this year's inspiring theme — "Unbreakable Pride, Unshakeable Power" — we celebrated love, justice, and radical welcome for all of God’s beloved people.

The float construction took all week, including some finishing touches as we prepared to push off! Our float drew lots of smiles and compliments along the 1.5-mile route through Hillcrest, bursting with color, joy, and affirming messages. The weather was absolutely gorgeous — a perfect San Diego day to embody God’s love in public witness. Several marchers reported that they have never received so many high-fives!

After the parade, the celebration continued at Balboa Park, where we shared food, fellowship, and laughter during a picnic generously supported by Thrivent Action Teams and a host of volunteers.

We extend heartfelt thanks to everyone who helped make this joyful day possible — from the planners, organizers, builders, decorators, and marchers, to those who provided food and hospitality. Your creativity, generosity, and energy made this an unforgettable expression of our shared commitment to love boldly and stand proudly with our LGBTQIA+ siblings.

On Sunday, we continued the celebration with a Pride-themed worship service and fellowship. Thanks to the Rev. Dr. Brian Oltman for joining us to preach!

Let us continue to be unbreakable in our pride and unshakeable in our call to love.
