This month’s selection, West With Giraffes, by Linda Rutledge, is a novel inspired by the true story of two giraffes who won the hearts of Depression-era America. It’s 1938 and a news account of two giraffes who miraculously survive a hurricane while crossing the Atlantic captivates weary Americans. A “Dust Bowl rowdy”, Woodrow Wilson Nickel, becomes the driver of the truck that transports these animals cross-country, and delivers Southern California’s first giraffes to the San Diego Zoo. Part adventure, part historical saga, West with Giraffes explores what it means to be changed by the grace of animals.

This month’s meeting will be Thursday, October 20, 6:00PM in the church library. Please come and join both a lively discussion and the warm fellowship of FLC readers!  Colleen Kramer will host. A hybrid option will be available, and a link will be sent before the meeting. Questions? Contact Martha Radatz 619-575-2845
